Riot Days is coming back to North America with a bold new version!

This show is based on Maria Alekhina’s second book, which is set to be published in fall 2025.

This will be our first international tour with this project following the world premiere at Munich’s Haus der Kunst on February 2nd.

This iteration delves into Maria’s personal journey after her release from a Russian prison, including:

• Pussy Riot’s protests, such as their clash with Cossacks during the 2014 Sochi Olympics and their actions of raising rainbow flags atop Russia’s most important government buildings

• Attacks by pro-Kremlin groups

• Oppression and violence against LGBTQ+ people

• The heroic story of Alexey Navalny—his arrest, imprisonment, and murder in prison

• Maria’s multiple arrests

• Putin’s invasion of Ukraine

Proceeds from the show will support Ukraine and Russian political prisoners.

    Maria Alyokhina, along with music producer Alexander Cheparukhin, initiated Riot Days based on Alyokhina’s book. The show chronicles Alyokhina’s experiences with Pussy Riot, from their iconic protests to their court trials and prison sentences. The content evolves, reflecting current  events like political prosecutions and the Russian aggression against Ukraine. 

    With over 400 performances globally, “Riot Days” has garnered prestigious awards like the Herald Angel Award, Total Theatre Award of Edinburgh Festivals, the annual anti-fascist award in Germany, the Woody Guthrie Prize in the USA, and more. Just recently four ladies of Riot Days have got the honorary degrees of the Doctor of Letters of the University of Kent, and celebrated this with an impromptu performance in the historical Canterbury Cathedral. 

    Maria Alyokhina’s 1.5-year detention and house arrest in 2021-2022, for a single social media post supporting Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalny, exemplifies the climate. Despite these hurdles, she managed to escape Russia in May 2022, disguised as a food courier. Without her Russian passport, she still successfully crossed borders. This escape allowed “Riot Days” to spread its message globally, particularly in support of Ukraine. Significant part of the projects’ income goes to support Ukrainian Okhmatdyt children’s hospital and foundation.

    margø wasn’t always a villain. Hailing from the sub-zero tundra of Edmonton, Canada, she developed an early love for rock as she grew enamoured with classic anthems by the likes of Joan Jett and Blondie, inspired by their ability to empower millions of fans across all demographics. margø puts a modern, dark spin on the style of her predecessors - and she’s here to serve as the voice for anyone struggling to find their own. Through her dark femme aesthetic meant to empower the collective voice of the outcasts and underdogs of the world, margø sets the stage for the themes of fearlessness and self-worth to shine through each track - offering the perfect supervillain soundtrack that can’t help but make listeners feel unstoppable.
